Meet the compassionate therapists at Breaking the Cycle Therapy, a recovery-rooted practice offering personalized support for individuals, couples, families, and children online across Texas & California and in-person in Ft. Worth/Hurst, TX.
At Breaking The Cycle, we don’t believe recovery happens in a clinical vacuum. True, lasting sobriety isn’t something you learn solely from a textbook—it’s a design for living passed down by those who have walked the path before you.
Our 90-Day Peer-Led Recovery Program is built on a simple, powerful truth: lived experience is the ultimate catalyst for change. Under the professional clinical supervision of Dr. Alan Heide, PsyD., LMFT, our program places peer-led mentorship, accountability, and community action at the absolute forefront of your recovery.
We operate in structured, close-knit cohorts. Over the course of 90 days, you aren’t just attending group therapy; you are entering a dedicated brotherhood/sisterhood of peers committing to the exact same work.
Our curriculum is intentionally designed to move you through three distinct phases:
“We keep what we have only by giving it away.” Our program is built on action-oriented recovery that translates directly to real life.
1. Lived-Experience Mentorship
Our facilitators aren’t just instructors—they are peer recovery specialists who have successfully broken their own cycles. You’ll receive direct, honest feedback, compassionate accountability, and weekly 1-on-1 peer planning sessions.
2. Clinical Structure & Safety
While our day-to-day work is peer-driven, your safety is paramount. Our entire curriculum runs under the supervision of licensed clinical professionals, giving you the best of both worlds: raw, authentic peer support backed by expert therapeutic oversight.
3. Purpose-Driven Community Service
Isolation is the fuel of addiction. Every month, our cohorts step outside the group room to participate in local, hands-on community service projects. By showing up for others, we rebuild self-esteem, ease social anxiety, and discover our individual purpose.
If you are tired of clinical-only programs that feel distant, sterile, or repetitive, Breaking The Cycle offers a different path. This is an active, immersive, 9-hour-a-week commitment to yourself and your peers.
We don’t just help you stop using; we help you build a life you actually want to show up for.

Dr. Alan Heide didn’t enter the field as a polished clinician; he walked through struggle, legal trouble, and personal transformation before ever picking up a textbook. His lived experience with addiction, recovery, and self-redemption is the foundation of this entire practice.
After turning his life around, Dr. Heide pursued degrees in psychology and built a practice rooted in 12-step recovery, transparency, and honesty. What began as a solo mission now supports countless individuals and families through therapy, education, and one of the region’s most respected mental health podcasts.
At Breaking The Cycle, we prioritize creating a safe, non-judgmental environment where you can express yourself freely. Here’s what you can expect from your individual therapy sessions:
which often becomes a source of strength and motivation for individuals on their paths to healing.
For those affected by the family disease of addiction whether directly or indirectly-our individual therapy sessions can be particularly beneficial. Understanding how addiction impacts you personally, along with your relationships, is vital for healing. We aim to:
