April Scales

Licensed Professional Counselor – Associate

Biography

April Scales is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate who specializes in treating childhood trauma, with a deeply personal connection to the work she does. A survivor of prolonged abuse and a product of the foster care system, April brings not only clinical expertise but also lived experience to her work. Her journey from surviving trauma to reclaiming her own healing has shaped her mission: to walk alongside young people as they navigate and make sense of their own pain.

Having spent her formative years in foster care, April understands the unique emotional challenges that come with instability, abandonment, and complex trauma. Rather than allowing her experiences to define her, she chose to transform them into a powerful source of empathy, resilience, and hope. Today, she works primarily with children and teens who have experienced abuse, neglect, and other forms of trauma, helping them access safety, develop emotional awareness, and build self-worth.

April currently provides individual therapy at Resilient Hearts Therapy in Farmers Branch, where she creates a warm, supportive space for young clients to feel seen and heard. She also facilitates group therapy and sees children & teens at Breaking the Cycle, empowering youth to connect with one another, break generational patterns, and begin writing new stories for their lives.

Through both her personal and professional lens, April is passionate about helping others not just survive, but thrive.

Her fees for group therapy are $50/per person & $150 for individual therapy sessions; we will provide superbills for clients to seek reimbursement with their insurance.
